In 2021, our community came together and decided they wanted a more inclusive Waihī Beach.

Funds were raised to purchase accessible beach mats allowing safe access onto the beach for people in wheelchairs and those with mobility issues. Two beach wheelchairs were donated, one by LJ Hooker Waihi Beach and the other by a local resident, and they are available for FREE use all year round.

Accessible beach mats

The accessible beach mats, in front of the toilets near the Surf Club are laid out by volunteers from Labour Weekend to Easter, with the vision of allowing safe access from the carpark to the hard sand. Inclement weather or large surf drives us to bring in the mats for short periods of time, before it’s suitable to relay them. See the current status below:

Beach Wheelchair Booking Enquiry

The Waihī Beach Community Wheelchairs are available for free hire, all year round for residents and visitors to our beach.

They can be picked up at reception at Tasman Holiday Park, 15 Beach Rd, Waihī Beach. You will be asked to leave a driver’s licence as security over the time borrow a wheelchair.

Fill out this booking form to enquire about booking a beach wheelchair. It will be sent to Tasman Holiday Park who will confirm your booking with a reply email. If you do not receive a reply from them, please call on 0800 924 448 to follow up.
