WHAIKAKA WAIHĪ BEACH
Accessible Waihī Beach
In 2021, the Waihī Beach community united to make the beach safer and more accessible for people of all abilities. Through local fundraising efforts, they introduced accessible beach mats and beach wheelchairs to ensure everyone could enjoy the shoreline. In 2026, the community came together once again to create an accessible changing facility, enabling people with higher support needs to prepare for the beach with dignity and independence.

TAIWHANGA TĪNI KAKAHU WHAIKAHA
ACCESSIBLE CHANGING FACILITY
The Waihī Beach community changing facility, housed in the Surf Lifeguard club, allows persons in wheelchairs or with complex needs to get ready for the beach in a safe and comfortable space.
The room consists of:
- a height-adjustable adult change table with shower hose
- a ceiling hoist for wheelchair transfer
- accessible shower and toilet

TŪRUPANA ONEONE
BEACH WHEELCHAIRS
Two community beach wheelchairs are available for free usage all year round while at Waihī Beach. These were donated by LJ Hooker Waihī Beach and a local resident.
There is one Large Hippocampe chair and one Sandcruiser chair.
They can be booked and picked up at reception at Tasman Holiday Park on Beach Rd. Find out more and book your chair from the link below.
WHĀRIKI ONEONE
BEACH MATS
Accessible beach mats, located in front of the toilet block near the Lifeguard Club are laid out by volunteers from Labour Weekend to Easter. The mats provide safe access for persons in wheelchairs and with mobility issues from the carpark to the hard sand.
Inclement weather or large surf drives us to bring in the mats for short periods of time.
