A Friends Place (social groups for older people)

Social groups for older people. A place to go to talk things over, learn new skills, swap ideas and swap some stories. A time to help friends out, whilst having some fun and enjoying good company.

A FRIENDS PLACE (social groups for older people) continues to make a real difference to people’s lives at Waihi Beach and the surrounding areas. The social programme is now in its eigth year and has proven to be a place that older people can depend on to have some fun, stay connected with people of their own age and stay socially included within the community.

During a typical four day week there are over 100 people, ‘Friends’, involved at A FRIENDS PLACE (social groups for older people), including organiser Trudy and eight or more volunteers who help out with the activities, the transport and kitchen duties. The Waihi Beach Community Centre provides a great venue that is light, warm, safe and spacious.

Additional support:

  • Transport to and from activity sessions
  • First Aid trained volunteers (through Meditrain)
  • Guest Speakers
  • Access to local resources and information
